Tempest Blues 2-3 Little Oakley Blues
It was a game of two very different
halves as Oakley took the points at Tempest’s Wivenhoe ground on Sunday.
Both teams played very cagey football in the
first half, with both defences performing admirably; countering each other out.
With the score 0-0 at half time; a change in tactics saw both
teams playing a far more open game in the second half. Both midfields
were gaining more space to play into. Oakley were the first to utilise this
space, with the impressive Franky Selwyn breaking on
the left and setting up Brandon Manning for a clinical finish; scoring on his
debut for Oakley. As Tempest pushed forward for the equaliser, Oakley were
given more opportunities to break, and Selwyn capitalised again, this time
setting up Tyler Sullivan for his second goal of the season. Tempest scored
almost immediately after the restart to half the deficit.
As Tempest continued to push forward,
searching for the ever-elusive equaliser, Selwyn, once again appeared, this
time, creating his own chance, which he coolly finished. This, however, did not
kill the game off, as Tempest redoubled their efforts and with two minutes to
go on the clock, they were given their reward with a second goal. The Home Team
continued to push forward, but brave defending from Nathan Southgate and Adam
Brown at the back for Oakley kept the Tempest at bay. The score finishing-
Tempest 2, Little Oakley 3. A hard fought win.

Cornard
Dynamos Blues 1 Brooklands Blues 2
Following Brooklands under 10's Blues 1-1 draw against Gt Bradfords, The boys
needed to step their game up against Cornard. With this in mind the whole team seemed
asleep and allowed a goal to be conceded just minutes from kick off.
Josh Moore saved a penalty for Brooklands after a hand ball. Brooklands
continued to be quite and Josh was showing impressive form in goal. Ethan
Ward's control of the ball was still not enough to make the break Brooklands
needed. After a earlier injury, defender Jordan
Barnett went down and had to leave the pitch, Adam Mayes steped
in and defended well, passing balls up to the front, again shots at goal were
saved.
Gt Cornard kept picking away and poor clearing saw Josh Moore making safe
again.
Tim Perry's collection of a lose ball gave Brooklands new hope but was saved;
Tim saw his next attempt at goal clear the bar. A goal kick by Gt Cornard found
Murray Lane who passed to Ethan who's Shot found the keepers arms.
After half time team talk, Brooklands saw another of Tim's goals
intercepted, then the break Brooklands were waiting for, a pass by Murray
allowed Ethan to calmly place the ball in the back of the net. This started an
avalanche of shots from the Brooklands. great
determination throughout out the game by Charlie Lindoe
paid off and after great footwork and skill and when Charlie's pass found Ethan
he replied with his second goal of the game. Murray's solo run was deflected,
Tim's corner seen out and Jordan Hardy's Volley
missed by Inches.
A great game that saw the ball at both ends, but the Brooklands Boys team work
proved to much for Great Cornard and the game ended
1-2 Brooklands under 10's Blues.

Athletic 2
Clacton’s
u13's pumas followed on from last weeks 11-0 victory against Great Bradfords
with another fine display. Striker Ben Austin put utd
1-0 up after only 6mins, Clacton dominated the first half and soon after Austin
added his and Clacton’s 2nd, fellow striker Harry Johnson made it 3-0 at the
break. Clacton made several changes for the second half and within
minutes of the re-start went 4-0 up through Johnson. Then after some neat
passing down Clacton’s left midfielder Nicky Poole curled in a 25yrd effort for
5-0. Cruising to victory a mistake at the back let Athletic in for 5-1.
Johnson then completed his hat-trick, and new signing Jason Tilbury got Clacton’s
7th. Athletic did manage a consolation near the end, but Clacton Utd
Pumas ran out worthy winners. m-o-m went
to winger Chad Russell.

Lexden
Saints Blues 6 Cornard Dynamos 0
The
first home game of the season was played on a hard pitch on grass that wouldn’t
have been out of place on the Savannah, although the pitch was flat and played
true.
Having started the season well last week with
an away win at Lawford, Lexden were looking to consolidate that win with
another three points, which duly came with a pretty relaxed win after a hectic
start.
Cornard started by making it difficult for
Lexden to settle but they offered little going forward. It was all hustle and bustle from both sides
as they tried to get to grip with the conditions and get into some sort of
rhythm.
There were not many moves of note in the
first twenty minutes, but after seventeen minutes Harry Webb, Luc Williams and
Josh Harrsion combined well down the left. Harrison took the ball past the defence and
from a very acute angle cannoned the bar but the ball dropped down and away to
safety.
Ed Field entered the fray after eighteen
minutes and started to pull the strings with passes to the flanks and feet.
Then
Harrison was put through but the keeper saved and the follow up from Reid was
scrambled away by the defender. The
flanks started to get going and after thirty five minutes Lewis Bailey went on
a mazy run and cutting in from the right to beat a number of players, he
slipped the ball to Harrison on the edge in front of goal. He in turn moved the ball out of his feet and
clipped a curling shot past the despairing dive of the keeper into the top
right hand corner; 1-0.
In the thirty sixth minute Lewis Axell, Leo Reid and Alex Rutter combined nicely down the
right and Rutter flashed a cross-shot from the right of the box but it came to
nothing although hinted at the efforts to come.
It was soon 2-0 when Axell’s
cross from the right found its way through to Luc Williams on the edge of the
box on the left and his clipped shot arced over the keeper into the top of the
net to the keeper’s right.
Half time came and Lexden made two changes
with Deasko Garner and Callum McLean coming on for Reid and Rutter and within
three minutes of the off Gallifant made a good save when Cornard were through
on the edge of the box.
It became 3-0 in the fifty third minute when
Ed Field put Lewis Axell in and the defender half
cleared his shot only for it to bounce to Garner who smashed it home across
into the far post for his first in the game.
After the fifty sixth the ball was moved in a
one-two between McLean and Phillips and found its way to Harrison but his shot
was easily cleared this time. Cornard were
starting to find the pressure telling and were hanging on as the game
proceeded.
With
more good moves edging into the game Lexden took it to 4-0 when Axell was put in by Bailey and he peeled back to the near
post and finished nicely for his first goal of the season.
Williams was making penetrating runs down the
right combining well with Bailey and on one foray he went past the defender and
crossed to the far post where Garner rose but was denied by the Cornard player
on the line.
After sixty five minutes it was 5-0. Taking the ball off Elliot Lamb, Ed Field
turned and tipped the ball over the advancing midfield as they approached to
close him down. With one bounce he unleashed
an unstoppable half-volley like a bullet down to the keeper’s right, who could
do nothing but watch it nestle in the back of the net.
It soon became 6-0 when Lewis Axell crossed from the right and the defence failed to deal
with it correctly allowing Garner to take his second of the game.
Lexden were comfortable winners and are
looking good with strength in depth all round.
FC Clacton 0 – 4 Little Oakley Reds
Oakley got off to the perfect start, when Harry Bradley found himself free on
the edge of the box, and with a left foot shot across the keeper which went in
off the far post. Oakley comfortably held on to the lead against the strong
wind, with the back four of Kite, Goldsmith, Warren and Lammas holding
and keeper summers clearing up the loose balls. Halftime
0-1. The second half was all Oakley with the wind behind them, Clacton
battled to keep them out but Oakley got their second through Rob Young heading
in from a Goldsmith long throw. Oakley’s third was an own goal after Freke put
pressure on the defender. Sam Warren scored Oakley’s fourth heading in a
Routledge corner. Oakley were defiantly stronger this
week with Collins bolstering up the mid field and Sturch
also played his part coming on as sub. The only player probably coming off
disappointed was Eldridge who was unlucky not to score.Man
of the match was Harry Bradley.

same 11 as last week. Both teams struggled to use the large pitch at Oakley and
found themselves competing in all the wrong areas
through the middle, Oakley took the lead mid way through the 1st half through
the retuning striker Jack Burkeet back after a 8
month lay off recovering from broken right tib and
fib leg breaks.
Oakley
were in complete control of the game, but to the credit the new look Boxfoord team never gave up and continued to play
good passing football, Oakley extended there lead near the end after new
signing Sean Mathurin scored with his very 1st touch after coming on as a
second half substitute.

CUNTLIFFE'S CALM WINNER
Halstead travelled to play Wivenhoe on a hard and windy pitch on Sunday
afternoon, the game started as a scrappy affair with Halstead and Wivenhoe both
giving the ball away as much as each other.
The breakthrough came from some sloppy defending from the Halstead outfit that
led to a Wivenhoe forward stroking home a well-taken shot to give Wivenhoe the
lead. Halstead slowly began to create chances and momentum, James Murray often
at the heart of the attacks with his skills on the ball. Jamie Arron playing in
Centre Midfield for Halstead had a good debut.
Halstead began to play like the side that won 8-0 the previous week and soon
equalised. Josh Preston gathered the ball on the edge of the 18 yard box,
flicked it over a defender wrong footing 3 other defenders to volley home with
pure class to make it 1-1. Seconds after the restart the ref blew for Half time
so the goal was right on the half time mark. Half time 1-1
Halstead came out in the second half much more confident than the first half,
and with only 11 players (most out through injury or away) their
was no substitutions or tactical changes. Lewis Cuntliffe played very
well in the centre of defence and made some very important challenges, he also
won every ball in the air.
Wivenhoe battled to get forward and James Butcher (Halstead's keeper) was
forced to make some important saves. Butcher came out on a number of occasions
to stop on coming strikers from getting shots in.
Shaun Evans- Spud was inspirational at the back for Halstead, a great
acquisition to the squad that now looks like they have settled down with a
squad of 15-16 players.
Halstead took the lead after a tactical decision with Greg Charlton taking a
long throw in saw it land on the head of a high flying Lewis Cuntliffe who
headed into the bottom left corner to make it 2-1 with about 20 minutes to go.
Halstead began to slow down after taking the lead and Wivenhoe almost scored on
a number of occasions, but Halstead held out till the final whistle and have
now won their first 2 games of the season collecting 10 goals and 6 points only
letting in 2 goals.
