Under 10’s Andrew Blues League

Lawford blues 1 Little Oakley blues 1

Little Oakley seal third spot in the Andrew Blues League.

Oakley travelled to Lawford only needing a point from their last two games of the session, to seal third spot.

Oakley awoke first on a foggy Sunday morning, with a lot of the play in the Lawford half.  Jack Murray, Tyler Sullivan, Brandon Manning’s passing, moving and tackled won the midfield for Oakley.

Oakley took the lead with a well taken goal from Jack Murray.

Shortly after Lawford hit the cross bar from a break away move, leaving Callum Mallett to produce an outstanding save.

Another goal was added by Jack Murray with a close range shot.

Lawford had only a few shots on goal as Matthew Smith and Adam Brown in the Oakley defence played their game of the session and with solid hands from Callum Mallett, the score stayed the same going into half time 2 – 0.

The second half started with Lawford pressing forward for the win by putting two players up front. Lawford pulled one goal back from a well worked move, the ball was slotted passed the Oakley keeper.

Tyler Sullivan and Jack Murray had a number of shots at the Lawford goal but was unable to convert the shots into goals. Tyler came within yards of the goal line to add another goal for Oakley but was unable to reach the ball.

With Oakley’s Midfield now playing the passing and moving game, Nathan Southgate finished the move with a sub-line chip over the Stranded Lawford Keeper, for his first goal of the session.

Lawford added a goal after a goal mouth scrabble that Oakley were unable to clear. Oakley thought they had cleared the ball of the line but the ref decided that the ball had crossed the line.

Another goal was added by Lawford and the game end 3 – 3.

Team  Callum Mallett, Matthew Smith, Adam Brown, Tyler Sullivan, Jack Murray, Brandon Manning, Liam Clacket, Nathan Southgate.

Under 18’s Colchester Open Cup Quarter Final

Halstead Town 3 Harwich and Parkeston 1

Preston Double sets up Cup dream

Halstead Town finished 3rd in the league last Monday night in a 1-1 home draw with Boadicea, with only the Open Cup left to play Halstead were looking to add a few more fixtures to the calendar with a cup run. With Harwich and Parkeston the visitors a league above and finishing 4th in their league, Halstead felt they were in for a tough match especially with James Murray their leading goal scorer out with an injury.

Halstead started the game the much better side and didn’t look out of place playing against a league above side. The opening chance came from a run from winger Dan Sakal who crossed early and Michael Huwes almost getting a head on the cross. Halstead battled well and the break through came from Josh Preston who weaved in and out of 3 defenders and then slotted a well-taken shot past the diving keeper.

Halstead kept possession well and Greg Charlton was always a threat down the left wing. Louis Cunliffe and Andrew Hunt at central defence were exceptional and didn’t allow any of the Harwich players any time on the ball. James Clarke played in a new role at central midfield and didn’t disappoint with some crunching challenges although he found himself close to a red card on occasions. Halstead could have made it 2-0 when a great cross from Greg Charlton was met by Sakal who’s header was brilliantly saved and parried onto the bar by the Harwich keeper.

Halstead went into half time 1-0 up thanks to Josh Preston’s goal and looked like they could go on and score more goals in the second half.

Halstead bossed the second half straight from the off and this began to anger the Harwich players who began to lash out a little in the challenges and a few players found themselves in trouble with the ref who produced a number of yellow cards. The second goal came from a looped corner from Sakal that was met by the head of James Clarke whose header headed for the keepers hands but Michael Huwes clever flicked header beat the keeper and hit the back of the net.

Halstead continued to build on their success and Stef Bonnet made some great runs into the opposing box to try and add to the score line. David Ball was on top form and was always a threat going forward as well as winning most of his headers and tackles. Halstead’s attitude to the game was great and manager Chris Charlton said he was very pleased with how the boys acted and stayed disciplined throughout the game.

Halstead’s third goal came from a through ball from Dan Sakal which was met by Michael Huwes who passed wide to David Bool who fizzed a low cross to Josh Preston who had a simple tap in to finish the game off with a brilliant team goal.

Harwich did get a consolation goal through a good bit of play that ended with a fierce strike that hit the top corner with Seaforth in the Halstead goal unable to reach the strike. Halstead ended the game 3-1 winners and now move into the Open Cup Semi Final against Red bridge at Wivenhoe Town on Friday 25th April at 8pm and with a win Halstead could be playing in a Cup Final this year.

Team: Bradley Seaforth, Louis Cunliffe, Andrew Hunt, Stef Bonnet, Greg Charlton, Dan Sakal, James Clarke, David Bool, Shaun Evans, Michael Huwes, Josh Preston
