Lt
Oakley Blues 0 Holland Blues 3
This
top of the table clash saw Little Oakley rue missed chances as Holland took the
points and Oakley’s one hundred per cent home record on Sunday.
The
writing was on the wall as Holland were first to settle on the ball and this
allowed them to score the first goal within the first couple of minutes. The
pressure was then on Oakley to equalise, but as they pushed forward, this
created space for Holland to utilise and they scored on the counter with a
finely taken goal that the Oakley keeper, Mallet could do little about. The
second half saw Oakley double their efforts but as they missed a spate of
opportunities, the writing was on the wall, and as they created chance after
chance it gave Holland even more space to work in. It was from one of these
counter-attacking chances that they scored their third and final goal, that effectively killed the game off. The Oakley
midfield continued to work tirelessly and although they were playing the far
more attractive football it was to no avail as goal line clearances and last
ditch tackling came to Holland’s defence. A hard-learned lesson but with the
purist football Oakley are playing, they have little to worry about for the
future. Man of the match: Adam Brown. Little Oakley Team- Callum Mallet
(GK), Nathan Southgate, Adam Brown(capt), Jack Murray, Tyler Sullivan, Frankie
Selwyn, Matthew Smith, Liam Clackett, Brandon
Manning.

New Latchingdon 1 Little
Oakley 3
Oakley were still looking for there first victory of the season when travelling
to New Latchingdon in the league. They got off to a good start in an even first
half when Harry Cranfield slotted home from the edge of box. The home side
levelled before the break with a fine ball that split the Oakley defence giving
keeper Shaun Moore no chance. The second half saw Oakley take control with two
goals in quick succession. James Crosby was chopped down in the box and Matthew
Geen slotted home comfortably. The third came from
Crosby himself. He was sent through and managed to put the ball around the
keeper and slot home. Points secured, Oakley played out the reminder of the
game without incident. MOTM was Sam Seddon who came
on as a first half sub and produced a strong competent performance.

Athletic 0 Lexden Saints Blues 9
Another
fantastic day with the Indian summer continuing meant that there were no
excuses for either side, even with the disappointment of defeat with the oval
ball to S. Africa still in the mind from the evening before. Playing on a better surface than in recent
years, with the location as perfect as ever, Lexden started brightly and took
the lead after eight minutes when Ed Field banged in the first from the edge of
the box to make it 1-0.
Having a few chances earlier which were well
saved by the keeper or put just wide did not deter the team in any way and they
continued to press forward at every opportunity.
The Saints were finding spaces and Deasko
Garner made it 2-0 when he converted from close range after good work down the
flanks. On fifteen minutes the Athletic
keeper saved well from Garner again but the rebound fell to Alex Rutter who
finished nicely moving it to 3-0. Wave
upon wave was being thwarted and Colchester made it difficult but Lexden
continued to have the edge with Luc Williams and Lewis Axcell both proving
dangerous down the wings.
In the twenty third minute there was a
corner on Lexden’s right which was swung in dangerously and both Lewis Bailey
and the Athletic defender threw themselves bravely at the ball under the
bar. A heavy thud as head met head and
both players lay motionless on the floor.
Bailey recovered and was able to continue but the Athletic player was
taken to casualty as a huge bump appeared.
We all wish him a speedy recovery from that.
Unfortunately Colchester did not have a
reserve and had to continue playing for the rest of the match with ten
men. This was a difficult task in the
circumstances and they acquitted themselves well but succumbed to the
relentless pressure as the game careered on.
It became four soon after the restart when
Jake Hughes rattled one in from thirty five yards when he shot into the bottom
corner giving the keeper no chance and the extra player in midfield started to
tell.
The second half started with the Saints
moving the ball around with menace and a move between Garner and Axcell ended
with the ball nestling in the back of the net when Axcell shot across the
keeper into the far stanchion (a la Brooking) for 5-0
The flanks were opening up as Colchester
tried to keep a tight middle and a well constructed corner allowed Field to
cross to Leo Reid on the edge of the six yard box and he volleyed into the net
to make it 6-0.
Playing now with vigour Lexden continued to
press and a move down the left, combining passes and movement, allowed
Williams, Reid and Field to cut a route through the defence and Field finished
with panache to make it 7-0.
Colchester continued to show a great spirit
and did not let up but it became eight when a ball over the top allowed Elliot
Lamb to cut on from the right and finish strongly across the keeper into the
net. Several positional changes were
made and players adapted well and were continuously dangerous with movement and
guile.
On the thirty third minute a deep free-kick
in the Lexden half was placed over the advancing defence and a line of six were
all vying for the bouncing ball; Hughes was the first to the flight and took it
down to finish from eight yards out with the Athletic keeper looking to his
defence for some cover.
Athletic harried and chased but their
efforts brought not much in terms of danger but they must be congratulated for
a great attitude and desire to continue in adversity. Lexden continue to punish every slip and are
looking a formidable team this year.
Given this form they will look to progress far in the wider cup net when
that comes about and will have a few occasions to come no doubt that will test
their own resolve and mettle.

2 – 0 Little Oakley Reds
Oakley
suffered their first defeat of the season, in a game where nothing went right
for them, and as normal at Tempest Oakley failed to adapt to the small pitch. A
goal in each half gave Tempest the win.

Lt Oakley 8 Brooklands boys 1
With
the boys now playing under new managers, today was the day to impress, and that’s
what all 14 squad members done, Oakley took the lead through Jack Burkett finishing
well after a delightful through ball from Sam Good, the two players
combined for Oakley's second once again Burkett finishing well, Oakley added a
third through a well placed Joss Neale header, Brooklands nearly got back into
the game after being awarded a penalty, but the superb Sam Cowler
in the Oakley goal saved the penalty diving low to his right hand side. The
second half was all Oakley who went onto score 5 more times Jack Burkett
completing his hat trick, Jamie Eades, Alex Brand, Matt Bedford and Cory Bomando, to run out worthy winners with what many thought
was there best performance of the season so far.
Under 18’s
Halstead Town 2 Feering Falcons 1
Preston’s perfect finishes
Josh Preston deserved the credit as
Halstead under 18’s secured a very impressive win against a very good Feering
side. Halstead had lost to Feering in pre-season but made amends this morning.
Halstead were without a manager and Greg
Charlton took charge as player manager, Halstead were on the ball early on with
Josh Preston working hard upfront. Lewis Cunliffe was
strong in midfield, but gave away free kicks for apparent pushing in the back
while jumping for headers. James Murray made a return after an injury ruled him
out last week and he got stuck into some hard challenges.
The breakthrough came at about 20 minutes after Josh Preston chased down
a back pass from Mathew Girling, the opposing keeper
missed his clearance and Preston was able to run on a score a tap in.
Halstead kept the pressure on but were almost caught on the break as a
speedy left midfield player almost took advantage of some sloppy defending
Bradley Halstead’s keeper made a couple fine saves to keep Halstead in the
lead.
Half time
Halstead came out of the dressing
room looking to add to the first half score line but it was Feering who came
out that bit sharper. A mix up led to a sloppy goal for Feering. Halstead
looked to turn it back on after the goal and had a few more chances through
Preston, Cunliffe and Murray.James
Clarke was excellent in defence and made some very strong challenges to keep
the oncoming strikers at bay.
Halstead had a goal disallowed for an offside decision, James Murray was played in and fed the ball across
to Josh Preston who was able to tap in to an empty goal only to have it ruled
offside.
The winner came in about the 80th minute after a ball was
played to the right from Lewis Cunliffe to an on
running Dan Sakal who crossed a ball that was met by James Murray who headed
back to Josh Preston who crashed his shot in to the corner of the goal.
Feering didn’t let the goal drop their heads and from then on attacked
until the end, James Wild a winger for Feering crossed a ball that was heading
for the top corner but Bradley was able to tip the shot/cross onto the post.
Goal Scorers: Josh Preston (2)
