Sunday 25 October 2009 - Colchester League U11's Division B
AFC Sudbury 0 Heybridge Youth 6
Heybridge's first foray into Suffolk was
rewarded with another comfortable victory at AFC Sudbury. On an uneven pitch,Heybridge took the lead
within minutes as a Will Bray pass found Harry Hart who took on three defenders
before finding a running in Nick Duwia who gave the
keeper no chance. Our second involved a good build up from Ryan Knill Jones in the centre who put
Harry through on goal. With just the keeper to beat there was only going to be
one winner. Ten minutes in and a cross from the right found Ashley Hill who
calmly controlled the ball before netting wide of the diving keeper. From a
throw in, Harry turned and shot from the edge of the area, the Sudbury keeper
punched the ball away but it fell straight to Nick who hit a low shot just
inside the post. Our fifth goal of the half was an individual effort from Harry
who ran one half of the pitch, outpacing defenders to slot wide of the oncoming
keeper. Heybridge added one further goal in second half from a Greg Spires
corner which Ash scored from inside the area after his initial shot was blocked.
Great
Bradfords 0 v 3 Cornard Dynamos
The
game stated quick enough with Cornard straight on the attack. It soon became a
messy affair in midfield with a wet sticky pitch not contributing for the game
to flow.
The
few chances there were, were from well outside the penalty area with Great
Bradfords goalkeeper making some good saves. The first goal came from another
shot outside the area from Bradley Beevis-Buchanan.
The
first half finished with 1-0 to Cornard.
The
second half started where the first half left off with Cornard looking the more
likely to score a second and with Joshua Bowles running strong down the right
wing and causing problems every time he had the ball and true to form the
second goal for Cornard came from Joshua Bowles with both the goalkeeper and
Great Bradfords defense unable to keep the ball out
of the net.
Towards
the end of the game Cornards third came from Josh Palmer following up another
long shot proving what good poaching skills he is adding to his game.
MOM
& Captains MOM was Joshua Bowles with an excellent display of both
attacking a defending abilities.
U12 B league – Brooklands
(home) v. Lawford Juniors, Sunday 25 October 2009, kick off 12.30pm.
This is the game of the season so far, table-topping clash between
all-conquering Brooklands, and Lawford fresh from a 2:1 win over
promotion-chasing Stanway Villa. More than the usual nerves among the
Brooklands parents, but some mum’s are still discussing the X-Factor on TV well
into the match… some things don’t change. Mind you, some admiring glances at
the late arriving, but beautifully dressed lineo -
could be Steve K is auditioning after all…. Murray (Brooklands) and Josh M.
(Lawford)’s build up to the big game? Up late the night before on-line gaming
and watching MOTD – and neither had a great game today, is there a moral here?
Just a word about the excellent ref and his two hard-working assistants:
although it was a good tempered, clean game, the ref was alert, in the right
place, in control and made his own decisions, whoever agreed or not. Assistants
kept up with play and flagged quickly. Good performances. The official FA
“Respect” tape down the sideline kept parents and supporters well back and made
it all easier for the assistant and the players on throw-ins, hope that happens
every week.
Lawford kick off, but long ball from Brooklands gives us a quick attack
down the right with Jonathan typically forcing his way through, the cross comes
in and brother Dominic heads the loose, high bouncing
ball home from close-in, 1 -0 with less than a minute gone. Unusually
quick start for Brooklands.
James and Jonathan have to combine to take the ball from Aaron, a
Lawford attacker we know is good from when he knocked us out of their
five-a-side competition. Encouraging sign as a Lawford ball over the top sees
all four Brooklands defenders reacting first and getting back to clear.
Tom K is again doing his job of defending and clearing safely on the
left. Brooklands centre-midfield is looking sharp, intercepting and moving the
ball quickly. We’re winning the headers. Dan in goal gathers a high bouncing
through ball at the second attempt. Four minutes in and Tom B is holding the
ball up well and using his close control to get the pass away. A Jonathan
corner goes in hard and low, cleared for a throw. Murray hooks the second
half-clearance back in, and Lawford put it out for another Brooklands corner.
Jonathan takes it hard and high from the left, someone gets a touch at the far
post, but not enough of a diversion, and it’s a goal kick.
The ball is hit back into the Lawford goal-mouth, Dominic wins it in the
scramble but he’s facing away from goal, lays it back perfectly to Murray who
hits it high with his left foot, keeper has no chance 2 – 0.
Brooklands now starting to dominate possession. Jonathan takes another excellent high corner from
the left, Haydn touches it just wide. Aaron and Rhys for Lawford show some nice
neat touches combining in the middle, but their efforts are cleared. Jordan
hits the ball long down the right, and Ethan gets a couple of long throws in,
making progress down the line. Murray is pushed as he goes down the left, takes
the free kick high and long but a Lawford head clears for a corner, ten minutes
gone and only one team looking dangerous.
Jonathan takes yet another corner from the left and James is unmarked
and heads well, but just wide. Lawford are struggling to clear their lines,
with goal kicks not making it beyond Brooklands forwards. Throw-in on the right
again finds Tom B controlling it expertly and passing quickly.
A rare Lawford attack, but Callum goes with the man bursting through and
gets his tackle in, Tom K clears up the loose ball putting it out for a corner.
Good covering by the defenders. James is down, but runs it off after some
treatment.
Lawford corner is cleared, but their free kick from a tight angle hits
the side-netting as Dan leaves it. Flick-on from Dom in the middle gives brother Jonathan a good run down the right, but Josh uses
his pace and covers for Lawford, Jonathan’s push ends the move with a free-kick
to Lawford. James reacts first and clears. On the halfway line James wins the
header, but had his hands on his opponent, free kick, but James makes amends by
heading the ball 30 yards to clear.
Jordan’s massive long throw (definitely a Rory Delap
in the making) leads to another Brooklands corner, with Lawford still
struggling to get some possession. The corner is half cleared,
the loose ball runs out to Murray who hits it first time, but high and sliced
wide. Its all Brooklands, as Tom B yet again intercepts their goal kick and
nearly gets through.
Jordan wins the tussle in the middle, moves the ball on well out to the
right flank again. Eighteen minutes gone. Brooklands not making the most of
possession high up the pitch, couple of half chances missed. Ethan gets there
first, and our back four are reading it well and stopping any Lawford moves
before they get going. Jordan keeps winning those tackles – brilliant timing.
Lawford finally do get through as Tom K throws himself into the
challenge, but Dan has to save smartly down to his left – he’s earned his money
today! Lawford’s short corner routine is blocked, but
we have to scramble to clear. At the other end Hayden is through onto the
classic ball over the top, but Josh just does enough to put him off and the
shot is a weak one. Another great corner comes in from Jonathan, but Murray mis-kicks and Dom’s shot is wide. Lawford are getting some
more of the ball, but Brooklands look more likely to score in some exciting
end-to-end football. Dan gathers the over-hit through ball.
Brooklands players are unhappy at offside as Hayden and others are
running on to a high one, but the Lineo is quick to
flag and right on the spot. Tom B tricks his marker, crosses low, but Hayden is
waiting just too far across the goalmouth. Another Jonathan corner, its loose
in the goal area, and Hayden shows why he’s a top striker, once again he reacts
fastest and pokes it in, 3 – 0 and it was coming. Twenty-six minutes in and the
excellent battling Josh H. of Lawford has to clear a bouncer in the box high
over his own goal. Jonathan is getting plenty of practice at corners, as he
takes another one from the right, Brooklands pressure continues. Hayden gets to
a cross and tries a quick, clever back-heel and its only
just wide. Murray’s long-range cross-shot is gathered by the keeper. At the
other end, Dan gathers another through ball.
Tom K is concentrating well at the back, intercepts the pass and clears.
Right-back Ethan is down and in obvious pain, he’s
hurt his knee and can’t continue. Sid is on as captain and right back, a good
test for the left footed player. Just on half time Tom K makes a brave, high
clearing header. Its 3 – 0 Brooklands at half time. Manager Lee is encouraged
by the performance so far, particularly as Brooklands have often been much
better in the second half, but he is insisting on much more effort now.
Brooklands are all up and in position, keen to get on with the game, but Lawford’s three coaches are still talking hard at their
seated players, not the half time position they anticipated. Sid stays at right
back.
Jordan has come wide left to give the team more balance, with Murray
going centre-mid, Dom is right mid. Brooklands kick off, then Jonathan hoofs
one down the right to get the pressure on again. Brooklands move the ball well
up the middle, though Murray loses a tussle, but the ball is always in the
Lawford half. Hayden is through on the inside right, gets clear of his man, but
the keeper is coming – the ball’s on his right foot, but he doesn’t trust it
and instead flicks it up and over the oncoming keeper with the the outside of his left – quick thinking and 4 – 0
Brooklands. There seems no way back for Lawford.
Sid is adapting well to his unusual position, is alert and clears well,
five minutes of the second half gone. Sid wins his challenge in a dangerous position, corner to Lawford, Tom K clears. Brooklands now
looking less sharp at the back, Lawford are pushing down the right, Sid gets it
right again with a safety-first ball out for a throw. James heads a bouncing
loose ball carefully back into Dan’s hands – a massive drop kick puts
Brooklands on the attack again.
Jordan does what he excels at – times a slide-tackle beautifully to take
the ball out from the winger who was otherwise away. A long, hopeful low shot
from Murray looks like an easy take for the Lawford keeper, but Tom B hasn’t
given up and nips in front and flicks into the corner of the net, 5 – 0 with
eleven minutes of the second half gone.
Credit to Lawford, their heads do not drop and they come again, determined to get
something out of this game. A long shot is easy meat for Dan, who gathers
cleanly. Murray shows skill and strength to beat his man down the outside left,
but he can’t get a pass away, and three Lawford players win the ball.
James puts a massive high punt into the box, and Jonathan’s blaster is
blocked, 20 seconds later he lets fly again, its high, right in the top corner,
and hit so hard it stays stuck in the metalwork on the crossbar 6 – 0 and
Jonathan’s shooting boots haven’t stopped scoring from last week!
Lawford keep coming back, with some neat skills in attack, but as Callum
goes to clear his legs are taken from under him and our free-kick relieves the
pressure. A Lawford corner comes in at mid height too close to Dan who catches
easily. Once again its Jordan who stops Lawford in their tracks, he tackles and
then heads clear, superb! Sixteen minutes in and Lawford are having a good
spell of pressure – their second corner in a minute is mid-height and Dan
doesn’t force his way through the bodies and his punch is tentative, Lawford
turn it in. 6 – 1 and their goal is deserved.
Brooklands are still sharp, Callum wins a tussle in the middle from
Rhys, and Murray is once again battling on the left but handball is given
against him. Brooklands are back into attacking mode, with some good passes and
flicks through, could be another. On nineteen minutes a Lawford player needs
treatment on the right. Tom K tries to see a slowly-rolling ball out to touch,
but is pushed from behind and wins the free-kick. In this and several
instances, good to see the ref is alert to any pushes (by both sides) and spots
the fouls.
Jonathan runs twenty yards down the right touchline, his cross is half-blocked
and Murray hits a shot from the loose ball hard and low, but keeper makes a
good save to give the corner. Lawford defender blocks the corner on the line,
and Tom K shoots high from the clearance. Callum and James are again proving
totally reliable at the back, tackling and clearing and covering for each
other, intelligent defending.
Jonathan hits a thunderbolt free-kick from
the halfway line, 25 minutes in and Hayden comes off having made his mark,
Cameron comes on with fresh legs. Jordan wins every single header from throws
down the left. Tom K is sharp to the ball, calling well. Jonathan and Dominic
scramble the ball clear as Lawford apply some last-ditch pressure. Brooklands
are pressed back, but the best Lawford move is flicked with no power into Dan’s
grateful hands. Callum does enough, and Aaron’s hard chasing just gets the ball
rebounding for a goal kick. Jonathan comes off, he
must be exhausted, with Harry coming on left and Murray going wide right. Sid
shows his class with a clever flicked-on header from the throw-in. This is Lawford’s best spell, they keep the pressure on, and if
they’d played this well all game the score would be very different. Brooklands
have to defend, but Tom K wins a crucial tackle, Callum a brave header to keep
Lawford out. Harry gets in a half-tackle, but Dan has to help him out,
smothering the ball with his legs. Harry is called on again, blocks a hard
cross, but is adjudged to have handled. Brooklands clear and attack briefly
before Lawford apply the pressure again, it looks as
though they could pull another one back.
Jordan has to slide in again to take the ball
away from Rhys who is through, the corner is deflected high and swinging in, it
looks unstoppable, but somehow Dan reaches up and gets a strong hand behind it
and we can scramble it away. The final whistle goes for a surprisingly good 6 –
1 win and now Brooklands are undisputed at the top of the table. Another excellent all-round team performance, with every single
player doing their job and working hard for each other. Keith comes over
and generously congratulates us on the progress the team are
making, but Lawford can play better than this. My man of the
match? Easy one this week, Jordan has been back to his old very high
standards, outstanding work rate, reading of the game, tackles, interceptions,
headers and clever distribution. If you want a junior example of the Makalele role who can take throw-ins to rival Rory Delap’s, he’s your man! Another outstanding performance
from Jonathan, Hayden is a natural striker and the boys at the back made it
look easy. Special mention to Tom B this week who’s
positioning, intelligence and quick skills have really moved on since last
season. Sid, Harry and Cameron made their mark today, and should be challenging
for a starting place soon. And what a weapon Dan’s kicking is. If Brooklands
keep this standard up, no-one will bet against seeing them in the A-League next
season, but plenty of upsets are still possible in this league. Well done boys,
Respect in every sense! Thanks again to the excellent Ref and his assistants.
