UNDER 10'S ANDREWS BLUE LEAGUE

Frinton & Walton Blues 1-4 Little Oakley Blues

Oakley bounced back from last week’s first home defeat and took all the points on a windswept, rainy day at Frinton’s ground on Sunday.

Although, the Oakley team did make hard work of it to begin with. The away team began with stuttering passing, allowing the Frinton players to take control of the game in the early part of the contest. With ten minutes played, a failure to track runners, allowed Frinton to break and coolly finish under the outstretched Oakley keeper Callum Mallet. This seemed to give Oakley a wake up call and a change in tactics saw them reap the benefits with four minutes to go in the half. Last week’s man of the match Liam Clackett was at the heart of the move for Oakley’s equaliser. His strong hold up play allowed Oakley to break with runners, Jack Murray and Franky Selwyn, who in turn created space to allow Clackett to score, finishing the move he, himself had started. Oakley then took the lead with two minutes to go to half time. As much as the first goal was about teamwork, the second was all about individual brilliance, as Selwyn went on a mazey run from midfield, beating three players, before smashing home Oakley’s second. The second half began as the first half finished. Frinton pushed forward for the ever-elusive equaliser, allowing the Oakley midfield the space to play into. And it was from one of Frinton’s near chances that Oakley managed to break; Tyler Sullivan was to benefit this time with a well taken strike and gain Oakley’s third of the match. The fourth and best goal of the match was to secure the points for Oakley. A ball played over the top from Murray, saw Clackett take the ball over his shoulder and one hit volley into the top corner, A finish reminiscent of David Platt’s extra time goal against Belgium in Italia‘90. Clinical finishing was the main difference between the teams and Oakley came out deserved winners.

Man of the match: Franky Selwyn. Little Oakley Team- Callum Mallet (GK), Nathan Southgate, Adam Brown(capt), Jack Murray, Tyler Sullivan, Franky Selwyn, Matthew Smith, Liam Clackett, Brandon Manning

Under 13’s Essex County Cup Round 2

Clacton Utd Pumas 1Upminster Park Rovers B     0

Clacton went into the game knowing that a victory would see them through to the last 32 in Essex.  Clacton started brightly with some good passing through the midfield, and down the left hand side, Clacton created a few chances with Upminsters Keeper making  good saves to deny Clacton.  Then on 14Min's a corner ball was cleared from an Upminster defender, only to be volleyed back into the top corner by Nicky Poole. Upminster then has a few chances of their own, but they failed to convert any. Half time 1-0.  Upminster came out strong in the second half, and caused some problems for Clactons defence, but Clactons defence stood strong and saw off any threats. Half way through the second half Clacton began to dominate with most of the play being in Upminsters half, Harry Johnson, Jason Tilbury & Ben Austin all came close but failed to score. With only minutes remaining Upminster broke on the counter attack, and  M-O-M Keeper Connor Ibbotson  made an outstanding save, to deny Upminster.  Clacton Utd Pumas are the only team within the Colchester & District Youth League to  have made it into the last 32 in Essex. Well done Boys!

Under 14's A League

LEXDEN blues 3 Oakley blues 0 (Oakley Report)
This was a game of missed chances with LEXDEN confirming their status as table toppers by producing three top draw goals when Oakley rued missed chances. Two fairly even sides lined up on a wet blowey day. Honours were even for 15 minutes then LEXDEN broke and made it 1 0. Oakley then had chances through Taylor and Mack and Roberts but all uncharacteristically missed. After the break Oakley pressed for an equalizer and were caught on the break. From the resultant short corner LEXDEN added a second. Oakley captained by Palmer in the absence of knight and abbot both away on school trips fought well but again could not hit the target. With 5 minutes to go LEXDEN wrapped it up with the impressive Ryan heath unable to do anything about the break on this occasion. Mack and Johnson were excellent again and a bright spot was the return to the team of young duly. On the downside Selwyn and Kioussis allowed their frustration at some of the lenient refereeing that they were both booked for dissent taking the shine off a solid performance from both.

LEXDEN blues 3 Oakley blues 0 (Lexden Report)

The first meaningful downpour meant for a skiddy top surface and give underfoot but really good conditions for a game against the visitors Little Oakley who usually make a good game of it.

Both teams started positively and adapted well to the conditions; Lexden prodding and probing and Oakley trying to counter with pace.  The first moment and half chance came in the ninth minute when Luc Williams put Josh Harrison through but the keeper and covering defender managed to clear.

Deasko Garner then put over after a good move down the left but it was not long after when the Saints took the lead.  On fourteen minutes a lovely flowing move starting at the back ended with Harrison netting from the six yard box.

Elliot Lamb moved the ball into feet in midfield.  Jake Hughes chipped up to Garner who controlled well on the chest and swept across the edge of the area past defenders to lay off to Lewis Axcell on the right. He controlled and went past the defender before crossing hard and low to across the box to the advancing Harrison; 1-0.

Lexden continued to make Oakley turn but they battled in midfield and looked to move quickly forward.  In fact they had a golden opportunity when the forward sprinted clear but blasted wide when well placed.

In the conditions keeping the ball and moving it to the nearest player can prove both simple and effective.  At times the killer ball was being played too often but it showed that confidence was high and goals were being sought.

After thirty minutes a ball over the top caught the Saints off-guard but again Oakley failed to capitalise but at 1-0 they were always in with a shout.

In the thirty second minute Harrison was put through by Williams but he pulled his shot wide of the post with just the keeper to beat, but his presence high up the line was always unsettling the Oakley defenders.

The second half started briskly and Saints almost let Oakley in when their midfield player breezed through and shot strongly but Ben Gallifant in goal saved well and held on to deny them their opener.

The game continued to sway but Lexden continued to look the more dangerous.  It was 2-0 after fifty four minutes when a well taken corner was clipped over by Ed Field and headed into the net forcefully by Jake Hughes.

It moved to 3-0 after a good move down the left on the sixty fourth minute when Garner was denied by the keeper at his feet but the ball was worked to Axcell on the left wing this time and he returned it to Leo Reid who turned and laid it into the path of Garner to score from eight yards.

The game deteriorated with ill discipline and two bookings for the opposition for dissent which allowed Lexden to coast home.  If Oakley concentrate on the game and continue to show the right spirit they will do well this year as they are a robust all-round team, but on this showing they may have a few difficulties to overcome within.

Under 14's B division

Lexden Saints Reds 0 – 3 Little Oakley Reds
Oakley got back on track after the disappointment of last week, taking on Lexden away. Oakley were with the wind in the first half and it wasn’t until the last minute that they went in front, with Rob Young stealing the ball on the edge of the box to go and slot past the keeper. The second half was all Oakley, and it wasn’t long before they went two up when Charlie Eldridge stormed through to latch on to a through ball to score. Lexden did threaten occasionally but the ever present
Warren and Goldsmith cleaned up easily. As the half wore on the midfield of Collins and Partridge took control top keep Lexden penned in. Eldridge finally got his second to seal the win.Man of the match Jamie Partridge.

Muzza is Halstead Hero

Halstead Town 14 Clacton 1

Halstead Town well and truly won this game away to a Clacton side that are sitting on the bottom of the league. Halstead began sloppy and went one nil down after only a minute. A corner whipped in by a Clacton player was taken by the wind and went straight in.

Halstead sloppy start soon turned into a convincing win after James Murray scored 7 goals along with goals from Michael Huwes, Josh Preston who got 2 Steff Bonnet scored one Dan Sakal got one and captain Lewis Cunliffe got two.

Manager less Town were without key player James Clarke through injury but Twiggy and Shaun Evans were strong at centre back and played well together.

The Halstead outfit were far to strong for a Clacton side who were lacking in defence. James Murray to full advantage of this and scored 7 goals, and could have got more.

Lewis Cunliffe was strong as always in midfield and made some strong challenges and won some good headers. Goal hero Murray was on fine form and slotted away some great goals. Final score Halstead 14 Clacton Valley 1 Goal scorers: James Murray (7) Michael Huwes, Dan Sakal, Steff Bonnet, Josh Preston (2) Lewis Cunliffe (2)
