Long
Melford Blues 1 AFC Sudbury Blues 4
Both
sides were ready for this local Derby and started off with good attacking play from
each team. The AFC midfield trio of Captain Christopher Lewis, Liam O Mara and
parents nominated Man of the Match Seb Lingard started to exert controlled pressure with a number
of good attacking runs from all 3, with a number of chances to take the lead
going wide.
Against
the run of play, Long Melford went 1 up with AFC’s defence stalling on
commitment.
The
boys kept their spirits up well marshalled by their captain, with shots from
Chris, Seb and a very well taken volley drive from
Liam O,Mara just passing the cross bar. After a good driving run from Chris Lewis and good interplay with Seb lingard. AFC won a
corner and from the resulting corner kick Evan Gartland
headed the ball home for the equaliser.
After
half time the boys dominated the game with and a well taken volley from Seb Lingard, cleared the keeper to put the boys 1-2 up. Chris Lewis
scored the third from a corner and despite Long Melfords
efforts, a number of saves from keeper Max Horkan,
kept them at bay. AFC scored the 4th when Chris Lewis slotted the
ball home from another well won corner.
A
good game by both teams with AFC the deserved winners.
Long
Melford Reds 3 AFC Sudbury Reds 4
Long
Melford put AFC under pressure from the start, but the boys, well marshalled by
Capt. Tommy Malone who, along with defender Fred Standley
helped to keep Melford at bay. Daniel Parrett made a
number of good strong driving runs from the left, and was unlucky not to score.
AFC started to control the midfield and both Tommy Malone and Lewis Kindell were unlucky with their shots just going wide.
AFC’s
pressure began to tell and after a number of controlled passages of play they
won a corner. From the resulting kick a well flighted
pass from Lewis Kindell was headed home by parents
nominated Man of the Match, Matthew Float.
AFC
went 2 nil up just before half time from a penalty, slotted home by Matthew
Float.
New
signing Jamie Cowley showed good promise in his first
game with some good attacking play.
After
half time AFC started to dominate the play and the pressure was converted in to
a well taken third by Lewis Kindell.
Melford
then started to control the game and fought hard and after some well worked
midfield play scored a goal of their own.
AFC
were awarded another penalty for another handball and went 1-4 up. The penalty being converted again by Matthew Float getting his hatrick.
Melford
kept their heads up and scored their second from a well taken corner move. AFC
Sudbury concentration began to wane in the latter period of the game coming
under concerted pressure eventually conceding a third making the final 3
minutes a nail biting affair for everyone. AFC held on to win 3-4.
Colchester
Athletic Blues 0 Brooklands Blues 2
After
a heavy defeat last week against Halstead Town, Booklands
Under 10's Blues needed to pick themselves up against
Colchester Athletic. Murray Lane's first attempt at goal in the opening minutes
took a deflection from the goalie and the game was on! Charlie Lindeo then intercepted a goal kick and passed the ball on
to Ethan Ward who turned the Col A' defender taking the ball to just yards
outside the box and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
Colchester Athletic fought back and Josh Moore made some excellent saves.
Brooklands continued to miss chances to increase their lead and when they
regained control Murray's cross into the col A' half
and bad clearance from them gave Charlie the chance to score and he smashed the
ball into the net ending the game 0 - 2 Brooklands Blue
A
comprehensive display saw Little Oakley take all the points on Sunday,
maintaining their one hundred per cent home record.
Little Oakley dominated from start to finish in a very one-sided game. It was a case of not if, but when, they would score. Jack Murray duly obliged with 10 minutes played, when he hit a rasping shot, that the opposition keeper could do little about. After the break, the Little Oakley midfield of Sullivan, Selwyn and Murray continued to boss procedures, creating chance after chance. However, Oakley could not kill off the opposition whose keeper was making save after fine save. And with this, the home side almost paid the ultimate penalty when a rare Brighlingsea attack almost led to an equalising goal. This seemed to spur the Oakley team on, and almost immediately, Murray was there again to push the ball past the outstretched Brightlingsea keeper. With the Oakley team continuing to play some attractive, incisive football, more chances were created, which culminated with Murray, being allowed to run at the Brightlingsea keeper and he completed his hat-trick with five minutes to spare. A good all round footballing display by the Oakley team, especially Murray who was awarded man of the match by the opposition coaches.Man of the match: Jack Murray

Baddow
Spartak 0 – 0 Little Oakley Reds (aet) Little Oakley won 4-3 on penalties.
Oakley made the trip to Baddow for the first round of the county cup. The first
half both teams matched each other with neither side testing the keepers. The
second half saw Oakley take the game to Baddow, but still couldn’t turn the
pressure into goal changes, Baddow got back into the game but they couldn’t
break down the Oakley defence. Full time 0-0. The
extra time went the same as normal time, so it went down to penalties. Oakley
went first Oli Freke scoring, Baddow scored theirs, Rob Young scored his kick,
Baddow missed the next , Harry Bradley stepped up to score his, Baddow scored,
Jamie Partridge had his kick saved, Baddow scored now the score is 3-3, Lewis
Collins had his kick saved, Jordan Bull saved Baddows
next kick. The score now 3-3 so it went down to sudden death. Up stepped Oakley
keeper Bull to put Oakley in front. Bull then saved Baddow’s
kick to win the Match. Well done lads our first success in the county cup. Man
of the match Shane Routledge.
Lexden
Saints Blues 7 Catholic United Minors 0
Playing
at home in the cup for the early rounds is always an advantage, but you have to
make that advantage tell to progress.
Making changes rather than sticking religiously to the plan, the Saints
came out easy winners against the Catholics in at times a hellfire and
brimstone encounter.
In the game Lexden dominated play for most of
the time and cruised through 7-0 looking dangerous at every attack. To start, United took the game to the Saints
and flattered with their approach, but were two down within ten minutes.
Lexden were looking sharp up front with
Deasko Garner and Josh Harrison combining well with skill, pace and power. The midfield competed for every ball and were
moving the ball around well. United were
looking to get the ball forward quickly to capitalise on their own pace up
front, but had to make changes when two down and not getting any change out of
the Saints defence.
The first came after seven minutes when
Harrison put Garner through and his shot was saved by the keeper but the
rebound fell to Harrisons feet and he stroked the
ball past all into the far corner of the net; 1-0.
Lewis Axell
finished a through ball from Ed Field after nine minutes but was adjudged
offside. Within three minutes of the
first though, it was 2-0 when Garner finished well from Harrisons
cross from the right. This quickly became
three as the shell-shocked United wobbled.
On sixteen minutes when Harrison challenged the keeper for a ball in the
air. Dropping it at his feet, Harrison
accepted the gift from the United keeper and banged it
into the top of the net from eight yards; 3-0.
The Lexden defence was coping with the
sporadic attacks and the midfield was on top in the engine room. The wings were not quite going but several
moves further up the pitch allowed Williams and Axell
to show their skills getting involved at the right moments.
On thirty two minutes Aaron Boots made his
mark with a well taken goal from twenty five yards out; the ball was half
cleared from a cross on the left and Boots moved onto it centrally. Checking that the keeper was off his line, he
clipped a shot over his head which nestled in the top of the net; 4-0.
Half time came and changes were made, but the
general flow of the game was uninterrupted with the Saints dominating the
better exchanges. It became 5-0 on forty
four minutes when Jake Hughes shot from within the box when the keeper palmed a
crossed corner out to sixteen yards. The
keeper saved but the ball fell to Alex Rutter who took his chance well.
On fifty eight minutes a chipped freekick over the United defence,
who were rooted to the spot, allowed four Lexden players to up the tally and it
was Lewis Bailey who gleefully took the opportunity and finished in the bottom
corner from seven yards to make it 6-0.
There were a few flying tackles coming in but
both teams managed to keep a lid on it and the wind was truly ebbing out of the
United sails as the game progressed.
Gallifant was called upon when a freekick was
placed high to his right but he clawed it away and the glimmer of hope was just
that.
The final score was made by Callum Mclean in
the seventy first minute when his well struck freekick
from twenty yards curled high into the corner above the unsighted keeper;
7-0. They had made it difficult for
themselves by putting two men on the posts, which allowed the Saints to have players
in the six yard box. This same situation
was almost capitalised on again by Mclean from a near identical position, but
this time the ball was cleared.
The game ended soon after and Lexden progress
to the next round with another good win under their belt. Three games played, sixteen goals scored and
one conceded. Tells it’s
own story really.

Under 18’s
Halstead Town 6 Coastal Rangers 0
Halstead Town under 18’s did a reverse from last weeks
6 nil hammering to beat Coastal 6 nil at Rosemary Lane this morning.
The game started very slow for both teams, looking to
find rhythm of play. Halstead began to pick up the tempo and it paid off, as
Craig Bates was on hand to crash home after James Murray scuffed his shot into
Bates path.
Bradley Halstead’s keeper made a brilliant save from a
free kick that was tipped forward by a striker. Bradley got a strong hand on it
to parry it away to keep the match at one nil.
Halstead began to control the match and were again rewarded
with a goal from Josh Preston, after the Coastal keeper was unable to keep
hands on a shot, Preston closed down and tapped home
to make it 2 nil just before half time.
Half time
Chris Charlton made some tactical changes at half time,
bring James Murray into centre midfield and putting Dan Sakal wide right,
within a minute it had made a difference as James Murray skipped through the
defence and tapped home a superb goal. Halstead began to dominate from here on
in.
Lewis Cunliffe added to an
impressive second half display thanks to a great cross from James Murray, Cunliffe got up above everyone and headed powerfully past
the keeper. Michael Huwes was brought into the game and added to the score
line, after the keeper had come out to clear Huwes managed to tackle and slot
home. Halstead were well on top by this stage although all credit to Coastal
who battled and played some good football.
Great displays from Steph in defence who worked hard all game as well as James
Clarke in centre back who was strong as always.
