Match Reports

Under 11’s

Oyster Youth 1 Heybridge Youth 9

Heybridge travelled to Mersea Island to take on Oyster Youth.  Heybridge started brightly and soon took the lead through a Callum Loveland strike, this was followed by some great passing and determined football from Heybridge.  Credit must be given to Oysters who never gave up and played the match with great spirit against a rampant Heybridge team.  HT 4-0 and straight after the break Oyster struck with a tap in at the far post, this fired Heybridge into action who then scored another 5 goals. Pick of the bunch was a Greg Spires free kick from 25 yards into the top left hand corner.

 This was an all round team effort with everybody playing their part.  The goal scorers were Nick Duwai 3, Ashley Hill 3, Greg Spires 1, Will Wilkinson 1 and Callum Loveland 1.  A quick mention must go to the Oysters’ goal keeper who pulled off some great saves and even saving a Penalty from Ashley Hill but Ash buried the rebound


Cornard Dynamos 1 Wivenhoe Youth Blues 2
After a disappointing first half, Cornard fell to their first defeat of the season. Wivenhoe pressed for much of the first half, resulting in them taking the lead from a corner. Cornard tried to get the ball down and play, but a Wivenhoe player was always there to close them down. Cornard finally managed to break through the Wivenhoe defence when a shot from Bradley could only be parried by the Wivenhoe goalie, and Josh Palmer, doing what a good striker does, gambled on the goalie making a mistake and so was on hand to knock the loose ball into the net. Just when Cornard needed to hang on to halftime to regroup, Wivenhoe broke down the left. When Cornard failed to clear the ball, Wivenhoe went through to slot home their second. HT 1-2 The second half produced a much better performance from Cornard, but no matter what they tried, could not break down the Wivenhoe defence, so the game finished 1-2 to Wivenhoe. Managers MoM was Chilli Wolf with the captains MoM going to Josh Palmer.

U14's 

AFC Sudbury 5 Clare Town Lions FC  3

Clare came out quickly and early pressure from Charlie Holmes shot just over
after 6 minutes, then a minute later James Rawlinson ran clear to score the
1st goal. Alex Feeney done a clever turn to leave his defender and put a
perfect ball for James 2nd, Clare continued the pressure with good football
but a controversial penalty gave AFC a chance to get back in which Scott
Goodwin converted. Clare did have a lot of the ball but AFC were playing a
lot of high balls over and this did trouble Clare but half time came with
the score 2 -1.
AFC came out quick in the second half and did trouble Clare and this paid
off on 47 minutes with a goal, they then hit the post and got their 3rd to
take the lead. Clare did lose it a bit and AFC kept the long ball going and
got their 4th, this followed by a great long range shot almost from the half
way line from a goal kick which caught Bradley Clark out for AFC's 5th.
Clare did wake up and had a good call for a penalty which was turned down,
Clare continued with the pressure but time was running out, Luke Wheeler put
what looked a good cross -shot which the Sudbury keeper helped into his own
net. James Rawlinson hit the post late on but it was all too late, man of
the match was Charlie Holmes and Robbie Jackson.

 Little Oakley 0 Heybridge Youth 3

First half patience paid dividends as Heybridge went ahead after 20 minutes of confident passing but a mazy run out of midfield stunned Oakley’s defence. Two more well taken goals before the break sealed victory for the visitors. Goal scorers: Bradley Morgan 2, Eddie Costa.
