Honours
were even as Lawford came back from two goals down to take a share of the
points at Little Oakley’s ground on Sunday.
Both teams played a high tempo game with the Oakley
keeper Callum Mallet being the more busy in the first half. Oakley, however,
managed to break out and Jack Murray converted with a well-taken strike. The
second half saw Lawford adopt an attacking formation and it was from one of
these failed attacks that Oakley managed to convert a counter-attack with Tyler
Sullivan finding himself in space on the edge of Lawford area. Lawford
equalised almost immediately from the restart due to some poor marking from
Oakley at the back. As the game progressed it continued to open up with both
defences struggling with the movement of the opposition attacks. It was the
Oakley defence that was to buckle first however, with the Lawford centre
forward taking his and his teams second of the match. As both teams were to
strive for the win, fine displays from both keepers kept the scoreline down,
Mallet did particularly well, topping a good performance and shading the man of
the match accolade.
Man
of the match: Callum Mallet

Notley Youth 1 Clacton Utd Pumas 8
Clacton’s Pumas travelled away to2nd place Notley this week trying to
maintain their 100% start to the season, it didn't take Clacton long to open
the scoring, after only two Min's Chad Russell finished off a move of six
one-touch passes for an opener. Nicky Poole smashed in a 2nd & when
Daniel Pearson's stunning through ball found Ben Austin he calmly slotted home
for 3-0. Jason Tilbury neatly claimed the fourth before Evan Brown
volleyed home from 20yards to stun the hosts with a 5-0 half time
scoreline. Clacton had a lot to live up to in the second half after a 1st
half period which the home-side described as awesome football. Austin got
his second & Pumas 6th within a minute of the re-start, Austin then
completed his hat-trick for 7-0. The hosts managed a consolation but Man
Of the Match Austin had the last word, when he lobbed the Keeper for his 4th
& Pumas 8th.
Under 14's Essex County Cup 2nd Rd
Osea
Wanderers 2 Little Oakley Blues 3
Oakley
travelled to Chelmsford for an early start against unbeaten and table topping
Osea Wanderers in the Essex county cup. Starting on a bright and warm day 2
players down due to injuries Oakley attacked the home side with plenty of
energy. Connor Weston opened the scoring by lobbing the keeper from 20 yards.
Oakley then conceded a couple of sloppy goals despite dominating the game.
Second half and time for the boys to show their true colours and they did not
disappoint, Johnson rang them ragged on the right and Selwyn and Kioussis let
their boots do the talking this week and ran the show. Man of the match and
Captain Knight found Weston with a sublime through ball and he slotted home,
soon after a fantastic move involving abbot Selwyn and Weston found Taylor who
made no mistake for the winner. A great performance which sees Oakley
through to the 3rd round for the 2nd season on the trot. A special mention for
Mark Taylor who ran the line unbiased again in the absence of regular John
Duly.
Little Oakley Reds 0
Cowley Boys Club 5
Oakley Entertained London Echo team Cowley boys in the second round of the
county cup. The Oakley boys played out of their skins, but still could not stop
the excellent Cowley boys, who latched onto any small error Oakley made and
punished them. Oakley though shouldn’t be despondent as if they play as well as
today they can do well in their own league. Man of the match Tom Kite.
Lexden
Saints Blues 8 Collier Row 1
Zap, Whallop, Bang and Kerpow; 4-0 and Josh Harrison had settled it
quickly.
Possibly
1st or 2nd then 3rd, 4th and the 12th
minutes were those that counted. The
first was a ghosted effort (ghosted because I didn’t see it; a tardy effort on time
keeping) the second from a cross turned in with ease, the third from a corner
from Luc Williams when he banged it into the top of the net from eight yards
and the fourth, a through ball splitting the defence, allowed him to run on and
score under the keeper; 4-0
Slightly shell-shocked and punch-drunk,
Collier attempted to get back to their feet but were knocked down again in the
18th minute when Deasko Garner coolly slotted home from close range
after good work from Williams down the left; 5-0.
It was almost five when a great flowing move
down the left ended with Ed Field stinging the hands of the keeper as he beat
the ball out from a rasping drive.
Lexden were ominous coming forward and kept the pressure up and Collier
Row had a few forays forward but lacked any finesse when it mattered. They kept going and were relieved to hear the
half-time whistle as this gave them some respite and an opportunity to regroup.
The Saints were straining at the leash and
were out and lined up early for the restart.
The break had allowed Collier to up their game and they started briskly
and positively. Pushing forward they
managed to threaten but the Lexden defence was always on top and they proved an
attacking force themselves with a few runs and good passing which set up the
attacks.
Moving the ball intelligently from the back
the midfield were involved all the time and had the strength and wit to
continue to dominate when the time came.
It became 6-0 in the forty second minute when a Williams corner on the right
was headed powerfully by Jake Hughes into the far corner when he rose
unchallenged from seven yards out.
Collier responded with a nice move down their
left which ended with the player cutting in and lashing a shot across the
goal. Ben Gallifant saved and palmed it
out to the right but it fell to a Collier player and he shot powerfully across
Gallifant who although managing to get his hand to it, was unable to stop it
going into the net; 6-1.
The forty eighth minute came and Williams
this time made a forceful run through the centre. Holding off two defenders he drew the keeper
and slipped in under into the corner of the near post to make it 7-1 and Lexden
reasserted.
Elliot Lamb on his birthday almost did a
“Barnes in Rio”. Coming in from the old
inside left position, he drew defenders one after the other but skipped past
them and shot powerfully past the keeper from the edge of the box only to see
the ball cannon back of the underside of the bar. It bounced on the line and went the wrong
way. Hands in head he traipsed back to
his customary defensive position ruing the “Russian” linesman who later owned
up to his enthusiasm for the game even though he had difficulties with his
sight. These are the sort of people who
turn out every week and are undoubtedly an asset to any club, but I bet they
have some interesting times!
Williams then got in the act again when he
finished over the advancing keeper when put through. The ball looped up and bounced once into the
top of the net to make it 8-1.
The second round successfully steered means
the Saints move on purposefully into the next one; an away fixture to Stansted
and remember to put all your toiletries into a clear plastic re-sealable bag
and only bring one bag otherwise you will have to pay extra.
Under 15's A Division
FC
Clacton 1 Lt Oakley 2
The
game was played in glorious conditions at Rush green Clacton, with Oakley
trying to keep there good form going, a big ask travelling away to a very well
run F.C Clacton side. Clacton controlled large parts of the 1st half with the
#10 in the Clacton midfield running the game, but Oakley are now far more
resilient & patient team, and to Oakley's credit they held out well
to go in half time 0-0.
Oakley
came out 2nd half storming and with the sublime Joss Neale carrying on from his
man of the match performance last week involved everywhere, and through his
sheer determination Oakley took the lead after a superb strike from Jack
Burkett ricochet of team mate Cory Bomando before nestling in the corner of the
net.
The
back four of Sam Good, Chris White, Lewis Cook and Elliot Hurry in front of
without a doubt the best keeper in the league and man of the match Sam
Cowler stayed strong and dealt with all the pressure Clacton applied,
Oakley second goal was from Joss Neale who strike from 20 yards
unstoppable, Clacton pulled a late goal back but Oakley carried on there good
form winning there 5th league & cup game in a row.
