Little Oakley keep 100% home record

Little Oakley Blues 2 Wivenhoe Youth 0

Both teams started very well with a good passing game from both sides. Franky Selwyn produced some great runs and crossers from the left and came very close to scoring on a number of occasions.

Liam made some positive movements off and on the ball and was unlucky with a free header in front of the goal but just put the ball over the cross bar.

Little Oakley also had opportunities to score with long range shots from Jack Murray and Tyler Sullivan, but the first half ended 0-0.

The second half started the same with a passing game from Little Oakley. Early in the second half Wivenhoe broke from their defence and callum had to make a great save to stop Little Oakley from being a goal down. This gave little Oakley a wake up call. Franky Selwyn came close with the free kick that hit the cross bar then came down on the goal line. The goal was not given by the ref and Little Oakley were unlucky not to be a goal up.

Franky Selwyn finished off a great passing move from the defence with a powerful bottom corner shot. With 5 minutes left in the game Tyler Sullivan finished off the game with another long range shot that was placed passed the Wivenhoe keeper.

Man of the Match Franky Selwyn.

Team Callum Mallett, Adam Brown, Nathan Southgate, Jack Murray, Tyler Sullivan, Franky Selwyn, Liam Clackett, Matthew Smith, Bradnon Manning.

Stanway Villa Blues 2 Clacton Utd Pumas  8

Clacton continued their 100% start to the season with an impressive away performance.  The Pumas started fast and were 3-0 up inside 6 mins, Harry Johnson scoring 2 and setting up Ben Austin for a third.  The hosts got one back before Austin scored again & Nicky Poole maintained his record of scoring in every game, to give the Pumas a 5-1 half time lead.  Austin completed his hat-trick 2 Min's after the re-start, then got his fourth for a 7-1 advantage, Jason Tilbury completed the scoring for Clacton, the host grabbed a late consolation. M-O-M went to Harry Johnson.

Under 14's A Division

Lexden Saints Blues 7 Stanway Villa 0

At home, but away, Lexden took on Stanway at Layer playing fields and took some time to get into their stride.

Stanway were promoted last season so were looking to see how they may fair and were out of the blocks quickly.  Making it difficult by setting out in a compact formation they were quickly behind the ball and chasing every loose bobble.

This made it difficult for the Saints to settle and the first half was quite a scrappy affair with Lexden having a few long range efforts, which in the end became “sighters”.  With the distance and elevation noted a couple of corkers fizzed in during the second half but more of that later.

The first effort on goal came after Ed Field and Leo Reid combined well for Luc Williams to advance in from the left but his shot was saved for a corner after two minutes.  The ball was curled in but Lewis Bailey was just unable to get on the end of it.  After three minutes Reid lobbed one over the advancing keeper and bar.

More probing and after five minutes Callum Mclean hit a free-kick into the side netting from twenty two yards.  Williams then crossed from the left and Ed Field flashed a shot past the post.  The pressure was starting to build and on fourteen minutes it was 1-0.  A throw from Bailey found Jake Martin and his cross was met by Josh Harrison who flicked the ball over the defender and finished with a well taken volley across the keeper into the far corner of the net.

Field then shot past the post after fifteen minutes and Jake Martin had two efforts, one was cleared the other whizzed past the near post.

On nineteen minutes the upright was tested by Martin from twenty yards out and Reid was first to the rebound but his cross shot was not met by an advancing Saint and it was cleared to safety.

A lovely move between Reid and Field almost allowed Alex Rutter to score. He latched onto the through ball from Field and cut in across the defender but the keeper came out and covered the angle well, but conceded a corner.

Stanway had their first effort after thirty minutes when the centre forward picked up the ball from the midfield, advanced and shot over the bar from about twenty five yards.  They continued to harry and chase every ball but were unable to make any real headway towards the Lexden net.Jake Martin then stung the keeper’s hands and the half came to a close still at 1-0.

A few changes at half time saw Deasko Garner, Aaron Boots and Lewis Axell enter the fray and it was only two minutes into the half before Garner scored his first of a well-taken four with a well placed header from within the six yard box.  The ball had initially been cleared off the line from a Hughes header, which came from a deep cross from Axell, but it looped up to Garner who leapt and headed home; 2-0.

Axell shot quickly but the keeper saved and Hughes again had an effort cleared off the line also.  Williams then shot in the forty second minute but the keeper saved well and pushed it over for a corner.  There was a theme building here.

On the forty sixth minute Garner turned well in the box to finish for his second and Lexden’s third.  He then made it a quick-fire hat-trick in the forty seventh minute when he took a pass from Field in the box and he rounded the keeper to finish into an empty net for 4-0.

Stanway tried to make up the deficit and had a lovely passing move which allowed the No.7 to run through for a one-on-one but he shot wide from fifteen yards out.

It was soon 5-0 when Jake Martin cracked his first from outside the box.  He picked the ball up, sidestepped the defender and let loose into the near post with an effort that gave the keeper no chance.

On the sixty third minute Williams and Garner combined well down the left and Garner cut inside and shot from fifteen yards into the corner of the net to make it 6-0, his fourth, and it looked like they were going to score with every attack.

Stanway continued to work hard but Lexden were making their possession pay and it was 7-0 when Hughes again scored on the sixty ninth minute.  Another thunderbolt that gave the keeper even less of a chance this time wrapped up a performance that took a little time to get going.  Not for lack of effort, but teams are quite adept at making life difficult for the first phases of any game.

Stanway look like they have enough about them to make a go of it in the higher league and they could not be faulted for their attitude even when the going got tough.

Lawford 1 little Oakley Blues  6

With no less than 5 players missing through injury Oakley called on Liam Scott and Harry fidget to step up an age level to fill the gap and neither disappointed with strong performances earning them both joint men of the match. Oakley started brightly with Roberts hitting the net after 3 minutes. They stayed on top for the next 10 minutes but were caught own from their own corner with the ball being sent upfield for lawfords Garrard unleashing a great drive which Cairns had no chance of saving. Oakley then took over knight Mack Kioussis and Davies gobbled up everthing at the back and let heath and Selwyn run the midfield. Roberts hit a second and then completed his hat trick. Further goals from the excellent Weston , heath and Kioussis have Oakleys dominance the scoreline it deserved. This result has been on the cards for a few weeks and poor Lawford were on the end of it.

Under 14's B Division

Community United 2 Little Oakley Reds 3
Oakley were away to newly promoted united this week. Oakley started brightly, with Charlie Eldridge hitting the bar, United slowly got into the game making the Oakley defence work hard. It was Oakley though who broke the deadlock on 25 minuets when Eldridge latched onto a through ball, rounded the keeper to slot home. Halftime 0-1. United score an equaliser on 45 minutes, but Oakley went back in front virtually from the kick off with Jamie Partridge powering through to hit home. Oakley went 3-1 up on 50 minuets with Eldridge crossing from the left for Rob Young to score. United scored again to make it 2-3, and pilled on the pressure but the Oakley defence of Lammas, Warren, Goldsmith, Kite and keeper Bull holding firm to secure the points, despite a dubious penalty which United failed to convert.
Man of the match Tom Goldsmith
