AFC
Sudbury Blues 3 Colchester Athletic Blues 1
Good
start for the blues at expense of losing one of their star strikers for 6 weeks
through injury.
AFCS
started their game well in good formation and linking numerous passes together
between teammates before putting the visitors on the back foot.
Seb.
Lingard (M.M.O.T.M) played particularly well
throughout taking on players and striking early, first attempt close miss but
second flies into the back of the net from shot taken just inside the visiting
keeper’s box.
From
return kick-off Col. Athletic started getting back into the game putting the
home side defense under pressure and from a short return keeper back pass
managed to side foot into the home side net equalizing.
Keeper,
Max Horkan made numerous saves and had a very good
game despite picking up a slight injury early on.
Fabian
Horrocks then took the mantle of taking on the visitors with some excellent
deep attacking runs but later in the second half suffered a nasty wrist injury,
through a keeper and defender entanglement, which will keep him out of action
for a while (everyone at AFCS youth wishes him well and a very speedy
recovery).
Warrick
Smith played a mature defensive role reading the game well from the back and
with assistance from Liam O, Mara managed to keep Col. Athletic strikers at
bay.
In
the second half AFCS moved with a purpose, Evan Gartland
sharpened his attacking runs and Chris Lewis (Capt.). Elevated
his game through determined effort throughout following loss of one of his
players.
Eventually
their relentless pressure paid off and Seb Lingard lofted a shot from outside the area to push the
home side back into the lead.
In the final moments of the game a superb strong shot
from Evan Gartland could not be held by the keeper
and quick reactions from Chris Lewis on the follow up gave reward as he shot
home from close range pushing the game outside recovery for the visitors.
Brooklands
1 Gt Bradfords 1
Under 9's Winners of the C&DYFL League Cup [Brooklands Under
10's Blues] started the New Season without last Seasons Player of the Year,
after a family move to Germany. Un-fazed by this Brooklands took the lead in
just 5 minutes, with a fantastic goal when Tim Perry scored from two yards
outside the box. Gt Bradfords reply was immediately from the centre spot,
whilst Brooklands were still celebrating. Brooklands settled down in the
second half, controlling the game and were unlucky not to win after near misses
by Tim Perry and Ethan Ward's effort hitting the woodwork. The
Game Ended 1-1.
A
nervous start to the season saw both sides miss chances in a closely fought
game. The first 10 minutes of the match saw Clacton take control of the match
but they could not convert their chances. Little Oakley began to find their
rhythm and in the second half, began to settle on the ball and play passing
football. A good display from the Oakley goalkeeper Callum Mallet, kept the
scores level. And with five minutes to play, after good work from Frankie
Selwyn on the left, a breakaway move from Oakley culminated with Tyler Sullivan
shooting from just outside the area. The Clacton goalkeeper could do little
about it, with the ball nestling in the back of the net. After a change in
tactics from Clacton, Oakley soaked up the pressure and managed to retain the
scoreline, missing a couple of chances themselves on the counter attack. The final score; Little Oakley 1, Clacton United 0.
Man

AFC Sudbury Reds 1 Colchester Athletic Reds 2
With 1 player short it looked like AFCS Reds would be struggling
but were eventually in a very close, hard fought game, very unlucky not to take
the win.
The Reds started their game one player short but as the visitors
matched numbers, it became a more equal and entertaining game.
Lewis Kindell started on good form
taking on the visitor’s defenders with some very skillful
play/footwork and linked together very well with fellow striker, Mathew Float.
Eventually, through a Float pass, Lewis efforts paid off with a
great strike within the box which pushed Sudbury into the lead.
Mathew Float hit the side netting from close range as AFC
frustratingly put Col. Athletic under pressure but could not find the second
goal.
Eventually, as occasionally happens with teams having a lot of the
attacking play, Col. Athletic counter attacked on the break, outnumbering AFCS defense and scoring the equalizer just before half time.
Fred Standley (M.M.O.T.M) played
extremely well in a defensive role alongside Ashley Dodd who again, played a
superb sweeping role as he did all of last season, making untold crucial
tackles as the final man before the keeper.
Tommy Malone played well in midfield with some good long passes to
the forwards.
AFCS piled on the pressure but it was soon obvious that it would
not be their day with numerous shots, just missing at close range and the
visitor’s keeper mild attempts just enough to deflect all shots on goal.
Another fast counter break by Col. Athletic late on in the second
half allowed there fast striker to skip through Sudbury’s defense
to side foot past the keeper.
In
the final seconds of the game, Mathew Float connected well with a volley from
an attacking AFCS corner but the shot hit the ground in front of goal and
bounced over skimming the bar, which basically summed up their luck on this first
league game. Good effort and good opportunities from all red players can only
be a good sign of better things to come.

AFC Sudbury 9 Cornard
Dynamos Reds 1.
AFC
Sudbury kicked off the season at home to Cornard Dynamos Reds and playing with
a 4-5-1 formation soon took the lead when Harry Payne slotted home following a
rebound off the keeper. Dynamos equalised when M Fisher shot with the ball
bouncing high over Sudbury Keeper Bradley Williams. The lead was soon restored
by Sudbury with Harry Payne running through on goal drawing the keeper before
squaring the ball to Brandon New to shoot home. The lead was increased when
Harry Payne ran through the defence and slotted home into the bottom left
corner. Harry Payne got his hat-trick when Jordan Cook floated a lovely ball
over for Harry Payne to smash home. Captain Scott Goodwin hit the fifth with a
cross/shot which evaded the keeper from 25 yards out. The sixth was scored by
Brandon New who ran through unchallenged and calmly hit home. The seventh goal
came when Brandon New brilliantly turned, ran down the right wing before
blasting an unstoppable shot home in the top left hand corner. Half time AFC
Sudbury 7 V Cornard Dynamos Reds 1.
Dynamos
had a much better second half, however succumbed to an eighth goal against when
Harry Payne ran down the left wing and cut inside and slotted home under the
keeper. Harry Payne completed the scoring with his fifth and Sudbury's ninth
when the keeper could only parry a shot from Scott Goodwin, with the ball
falling to Harry Payne who curled a left footed shot home from inside the box.Final score AFC Sudbury Under 12's 9 V Cornard Dynamos

Oakley
were at full stretch for their first game if the season, having to press gang
two under 13’s players Harry Bradley & Harry Fidget, who both played well
with Bradley combing with Lammas for one of the goals.
Oakley
scored first on five min’s after Oli Freke beat the offside to chip the
keeper, Saints equalised on 25 mins, but Oakley went 2-1 up just before half
time when Charlie Eldridge headed home Lammas cross. Saints came at Oakley
after halftime and came close several times. Eldridge put Oakley 3-1 ahead, and
should have put the game out of Saints reach but put his shot wide. Saints
pilled on the pressure and made it 3-2 with twenty mins left, then made it 3-3
from the penalty spot.
If
the prediction before the game offered Oakley a point, they would have gladly
taken it with only nine fit players, but after the game the boy’s came off
disappointed they didn’t get all three.

Halstead
Town 8 Clacton Valley 0
HUWSY 4 GOAL HERO!!
Halstead Town under 18’s opened their season with a
very comfortable win over a poor Clacton side. Halstead started strongly and
Michael Huwes opened the scoring with a great team goal, Greg Charlton fed
through a great ball to Huwes who comfortably put the ball past the oncoming
goalkeeper.
Halstead
maintained possession throughout the first half and quickly after the first
goal Daniel Sakal added to make it two nil with a neat finish from a throw on.
Halstead continued to press on and made it 3 with a goal from Josh Preston.
Michael Huwes added to the first half score with another goal after a corner
was cleared, he was on hand to tap in from about 10
yards.
Again Huwsey was on hand to score his hat trick
moments later and Halstead went into the half time interval 5-0 up and enjoying
their football.
Halstead
came out for the second half brimming with confidence. Clacton began the second
half a different side and were on the attack straight from the off creating a
few chances. Halstead defence stood strong with James Clarke and Lewis
Cuntliffe playing very well in the centre of defence. James Murray impressed in
the centre of midfield and so did David Ball who made some strong challenges.
Halstead scored
again from a Josh Preston goal neatly taken as well. Halstead were firmly in
the driving seat and maintained possession and again scored to make it 6-0.
James Murray added to an impressive score line with a solo goal after the
hapless defence of Clacton were unable to clear properly. Muzza
as he is known took the ball past one defender and stroke the ball home into
the bottom corner.
Halstead
began to lose concentration and Clacton Valley took advantage and began to pick
up the pace, but again the Halstead defence stood strong and stopped everything
that came at them. Halstead already winners added to the score to make it 8-0
with again Huwsey on the end of a corner heading home from the goal line.
Halstead dominated to the end and showed good fitness levels to maintain
stamina on a very hot morning at Rosemary Lane.
Goal scorers were: Michael Huwes: 4
Daniel Sakal: 1 James Murray: 1 Josh Preston: 2
